We’re all going on a summer holiday… or not

Travel companies have said that holiday bookings have exploded since the quarantine rules have been relaxed in various countries and we are all jetting off to hotter climes. Although it’s pretty warm here so I am not sure whey you would want to really. The thought of getting through an airport with Covid-19 as a constant threat hanging over all of us, let alone sitting on a plane with all of us masked up. I heard of one instance where the passengers of an English plane got off and were queuing to go through passport control where there was one doctor taking everyone’s temperature and a fight broke out as they all surged forward, thinking that they wouldn’t get through somehow. That’s our reputation for being excellent at queuing down the drain.
What is a holiday and how can we create one here in the UK, even if we can’t even get to an Air BNB in Cornwall for two weeks?
Here are the benefits of a holiday, courtesy of google…
Reduces stress
Increases creativity
Boosts emotional stability
Makes confidence soar
Improves your intelligence
Improves low moods
Boosts immune system
Strengthens relationships
So it looks like we all need one. How are we going to create this at home.
1. Reduce stress and increase our creativity by doing something that we can get fully engaged in whether this is something around crafts such as creating a vision or mood board which are very useful to help us to keep our minds focused on what we want and therefore feel meaningful to us and it will improve our confidence as a result
2. Take the time to recharge your batteries and this will help to boost our emotional stability and improve our low moods. Do this by taking a nap, getting a massage. This may not be possible here in the UK at the moment but you can even ask your kind relative to give your back a rub or you can massage your own arms and legs, just rub them down with a moisturiser and then get a dry flannel and buff them hard. This will invigorate you and you will feel rejuvenated by it
3. Relax, sit quietly in silence – this will help you improve your immune system as your heart rate slows, your blood pressure lowers, your digestion improves and so the list goes on including improving your sleep quality and boosting your confidence
4. Do as you please for a while. Be selfish. Enjoy whatever you choose to do and say no to the things you don’t want to do. Holidays are about pleasing ourselves. Close the kitchen, let the dust build up in the house for a while longer than you would. Slow down… one of my mantras, and take the time. Take a drink and sit outside. Tell yourself that you are on holiday, even for the afternoon and if you can, take a drive to the beach for the afternoon. It will work wonders.
5. Burning oils is a great mood enhancement trick or even just dabbing oil on your wrist. I do this with various oils. I love geranium and ylang ylang among others. These are great mood enhancers.. need I say more.
6. Have fun and enjoy some treats whoever you are with. Have some laughs, watch some comedy, have a water fight in the garden or the park, feed the pigeons and squirrels and let your hair down in any way you can with the people you are with
The above list relates directly to the list of what benefits a holiday can bring. Plan your staycation and it can be just as beneficial as a vacation.
Enjoy yourself!
