Get rid of toxic people and have more fun in your life

What are you like? And what are your friends like? Do you have anyone who, after having spoken to them on the phone, you just wish you hadn't!! It's no-one's job as a friend to make you feel better but it is also not their job to make you feel worse. There is a place for helping your friend when they are having an issue but there is also a place for refusing to be involved in every minute detail of what an awful day they have had and how hurt they were when this or that happened...


I had a boyfriend years ago who complained every evening without fail. I couldn't last long in the relationship because of it. He had a toxic personality and he just couldn't handle my not moaning every single night because of what an awful day I had had and how unhappy I had been in this or that shop or with this or that friend. He had a massive chip on his shoulder and of course, I just couldn't stand to be around it in the end. He wasn't a bad person but his perspective on life was such that he was no fun to be around despite his flamboyant and positive public image. He was so much fun when we were out socially but miserable as soon as he set foot in the door of his home.


There are toxic people and if you recognise this situation as one that you have been in yourself or you are in, then you will know what I am talking about. Sometimes it's just helpful for our friends to make us laugh, share something nice that happened to them or enjoy some light relief together. More and more as I go through life I realise that the simple act of having fun together can fortify us so much more than any conversation about our hurt or suffering. Comedy is a great way of strengthening us as people as is the laughter that it produces so call a friend and watch something together that makes you both laugh..... making this kind of memory can be useful too because you can think back or refer back to it when you are together and then it is useful not just once but as many times as you need it to be to bring you the comfort that the experience can bring.


Laughter, comedy, fun are all great distractions from the stresses and strains of life, some of which are self-imposed. Do what you can not to harp on about your misfortune. Your life will be easier because of it
