What does your life look like at the beginning of the year?

When I trained as a coaching I was taught to look at a client’s life within the context of The wheel of life which enables us to look at our lives and see whether we are focusing on one area of our lives too much and lacking focus on within another. At the beginning of the new year it is really good to do a kind of health check to see how we are scoring in terms of what we want to have / achieve in each area of our lives. This can then be done periodically throughout the year so that you can monitor how things are going for you. This means that you can make adjustments to your focus and balance things out whenever you see that things are going off kilter..


Everyone knows that having a balanced life is important so that we can feel happier and more content with our lives. Listing the areas of your life really gives you a method by which you can really see how you are feeling. I do this regularly so that I understand where I’m at with things and in fact, its great to talk through each area with either a friend or a coach, so that you can get real clarity on things that are happening for you. Focus and clarity are really important concepts and I will discuss these in future posts.

Romance

Friendships

Family

Health

Money

Career

Creativity



When you look at the list of sectors of your life, think about your life and give yourself a score between 1-10. Make a note of it and then look at your score and ask yourself the below questions to gain further clarity.

  1. Why is it most important to me right now to become more satisfied with this area - money, friends/family or whatever it is?

  2. What can I do personally to improve things?

  3. What can I ask others to do?

  4. How will I know that things have improved - what will I feel, see and hear that is different and better?

  5. How much do I really want to achieve more satisfaction with this particular area?

Take all the areas in which you got a low score, and answer the questions for each of them in order of importance. You may find there is more you can do to improve the balance in your life than you thought. If you want help in gaining balance to become more satisfied with your life.


It’s a great time to start working on yourself and your life and talking to someone can really help.
