Happy New Year!

I trust that the New Year finds you well rested and ready for action!

It’s a New Year!

Naturally at this time of year everyone’s focus tends to be on one or all of three things: our weight, our summer holiday or our New Year Resolutions.. During the Christmas period I saw Victoria Beckham on TV saying that she no longer made resolutions as she never stuck to them and a couple of friends of mine confessed that by day 2 of 2004 they had already broken theirs! I had planned to do one newsletter on resolutions for the new year but with all this apathy I decided to extend the topic over the whole month of January. This was not difficult for me as I was asked to write some tips on New Year’s resolutions for Holmes Place magazine and I got so enthusiastic that I wrote a whole strategy for setting and sticking to New Year’s Resolutions.

Resolution/choices/decisions/goals…

Resolutions are just the same as goals. Goals are simply choices or decisions about your life and how you want to change it. These formulate a large part of the work I do with my clients. This means that what I will be telling you over the next few weeks will be useful in other areas of your life. In fact many things that we learn in one area of our lives can be applied in another, principles/skills/strategies/feelings about oneself are all transferable!

My challenge for the year

I have set myself a great challenge for this year, to write a book, so you know that the ideas I outline here will be what I will be applying to myself at the outset and what I will revisit whenever I get stuck. Of course I will be addressing anything else that holds me back along the way too, like a reluctance to reveal more about myself and my own journey for example, or having to go back and rewrite a chapter.

Never feel that you have failed

The most important thing to remember is that there is no such thing as failure, only results upon which to base your next decision, choice or course of action. If you have already broken your New Year’s Resolutions, it is not too late to go back and recommit to them. We all fail, we all make mistakes, it is where we go from there that really counts. It is about being unafraid to see where we went wrong and getting the help to get it right.

Next week I will begin to address resolutions starting with one fundamental: how we approach them….

This week’s blog has been more of an introduction that anything else but by the end of this month you will have the information ready and waiting to apply to anything you set yourself to achieve this year.

Remember, you are not alone!
